This grilled green beans recipe features a smoky, sweet, and sticky maple glaze that transforms ordinary green beans into an addictive side dish perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup (Grade A Amber recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Trim and wash the green beans. Snap or cut off the ends and dry them well with a clean towel.
  2. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine maple syrup, olive oil, minced garlic, and soy sauce. Stir gently until warm and blended, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Place green beans in a mixing bowl, pour the glaze over, add sea salt and black pepper. Toss gently until evenly coated.
  4. Preheat grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F). If using charcoal, let coals settle until glowing but not flaming.
  5. Place glazed green beans in a grill basket or thread onto skewers in a single layer.
  6. Grill for 8-10 minutes, turning every 2-3 minutes to achieve an even char and caramelized glaze. Beans should be tender-crisp.
  7. Remove from grill and serve immediately. Adjust seasoning if needed.

Notes

Dry green beans thoroughly before grilling to ensure proper charring. Toss beans with glaze just before grilling to prevent sogginess. Turn frequently to avoid burning the maple glaze. If glaze starts to burn, move beans to a cooler spot on the grill or reduce heat. Leftovers keep up to 3 days refrigerated; reheat gently or serve cold in salads.
