A quick and easy dump cake featuring canned fruit, funfetti yellow cake mix, and a buttery, crispy topping, perfect for festive summer celebrations like the Fourth of July.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (about 15 oz each) mixed berries or cherry pie filling with real fruit chunks
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix with funfetti sprinkles
  • 1 cup (2 sticks or 227 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons patriotic red, white, and blue sprinkles (jimmies or nonpareils)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Drain canned fruit slightly, reserving about 1 tablespoon of syrup. Pour fruit evenly into the bottom of the prepared dish.
  3. Mix cinnamon and vanilla into the reserved syrup and drizzle over the fruit layer.
  4. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the fruit layer without stirring.
  5. Sprinkle funfetti sprinkles evenly over the cake mix.
  6. Pour melted butter evenly over the entire top layer slowly to cover as much as possible.
  7. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Drain canned fruit slightly to avoid sogginess. Pour melted butter slowly and evenly to ensure a crispy topping. Tent with foil if edges brown too quickly. Broil 1-2 minutes at the end for extra crispiness. Can be assembled up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerated before baking. For dairy-free or gluten-free versions, use appropriate cake mix and butter substitutes.
