A colorful and healthy kindergarten lunchbox featuring fresh fruit kabobs and simple finger-friendly snacks, perfect for picky eaters and busy parents.

Ingredients

  • Strawberries, hulled and halved or quartered
  • Seedless green grapes
  • Honeydew melon, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • Blueberries (fresh or frozen, rinsed)
  • Wooden or reusable food-safe skewers (short length for kids)
  • Mini whole wheat crackers or pita chips
  • Cheese cubes (mild cheddar or mozzarella, cut small)
  • Baby carrots or cucumber slices
  • Hummus or simple yogurt dip (optional)
  • Hard-boiled egg, peeled and sliced

Instructions

  1. Rinse all fruit thoroughly under cold water and pat dry. Hull and halve the strawberries, cube the honeydew melon into 1-inch pieces, and remove grapes from stems.
  2. Thread fruit onto each skewer in a colorful pattern—strawberry, grape, melon, blueberry—repeat until the skewer is full but not overcrowded, aiming for 4-5 pieces per skewer.
  3. Slice cheese into small, bite-sized cubes. Peel and slice hard-boiled eggs. Wash and cut baby carrots or cucumber slices. Portion crackers or pita chips into a small pile. Fill a small container or silicone cup with hummus or yogurt dip if using.
  4. Place fruit kabobs in one compartment of the bento box so they lay flat and don’t get squished. Add cheese cubes, crackers, veggies, and egg slices to separate compartments to keep flavors fresh. Add the dip container last, making sure it’s sealed well to avoid spills.
  5. Close the bento box securely and store in the refrigerator if packing ahead. Pack an ice pack if lunch won’t be eaten right away to keep everything fresh.

Notes

Prep fruit and veggies the night before but assemble fruit kabobs fresh in the morning to avoid sogginess. Use blunt or kid-safe skewers and supervise children while eating. Keep portions small and balanced. Add a squeeze of lemon juice to fruit before skewering to keep it vibrant. Store packed lunch with an ice pack to keep fresh.
