These buttery ham and cheese croissant sandwiches are quick, easy, and absolutely delicious. With flaky croissants, melted cheese, and savory ham, they are perfect for brunch, lunch, or a cozy weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large croissants (bakery-style or store-bought, day-old works great)
  • 8 slices of deli ham (black forest or honey ham preferred)
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese (or Gruyère for a nuttier flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional)
  • Arugula or spinach (optional)
  • Thinly sliced apple or pear (optional)
  • Caramelized onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the croissants in half horizontally using a serrated knife. Place the bottom halves on the prepared baking sheet, cut side up.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, Dijon mustard, and honey. Mix until smooth.
  4. Spread the butter mixture on the cut sides of both the top and bottom croissant halves.
  5. Fold each slice of ham in half and place two slices on each bottom croissant half, overlapping slightly.
  6. Place one slice of Swiss cheese on top of the ham on each sandwich.
  7. Close the sandwiches with the top halves, buttered side down. Gently press down.
  8. Brush the tops with any remaining butter mixture.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the croissants are golden brown and crispy.
  10. Let them rest for 2 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use day-old croissants for best texture. Let cheese come to room temperature for even melting. For extra crunch, toast croissant halves before adding fillings. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes.
