A nostalgic twist on classic Rice Krispie treats featuring nutty brown butter and a delicate dark chocolate spiderweb drizzle, perfect for parties and indulgent snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups (150g) Rice Krispies cereal
  • 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter
  • 10 ounces (280g) mini marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces (115g) dark chocolate (70% cacao preferred), chopped or chips
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter: In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt 6 tablespoons (85g) of unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir constantly and watch carefully. After about 5–7 minutes, the butter will foam, then turn a golden brown and smell nutty. Remove immediately from heat to avoid burning. Pour into a heatproof bowl to stop cooking.
  2. Add marshmallows: Return the saucepan to low heat and add 10 ounces (280g) of mini marshmallows to the browned butter. Stir gently until completely melted and smooth, about 3–5 minutes. Stir in 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract.
  3. Mix in cereal: Remove the pan from heat and quickly fold in 6 cups (150g) of Rice Krispies cereal. Use a spatula to gently but thoroughly coat all the cereal with the marshmallow mixture. Fold just enough to combine without overmixing.
  4. Press into pan: Transfer the mixture to a prepared 9×13-inch baking pan lined with parchment paper or lightly greased. Press evenly using a spatula or lightly buttered hands. Let cool for 15–20 minutes.
  5. Melt dark chocolate: Melt 4 ounces (115g) of dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second bursts, stirring between, or use a double boiler until smooth and pourable but not too hot.
  6. Create spiderweb drizzle: Using a fork or spoon, drizzle the melted dark chocolate over the cooled treats in a back-and-forth motion to create thin spiderweb-like lines. Immediately sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top.
  7. Set and serve: Let the chocolate harden at room temperature for about 30 minutes or refrigerate for 10 minutes to speed up setting. Cut into squares or shapes and enjoy.

Notes

Watch the butter carefully to avoid burning; remove from heat as soon as it smells nutty and turns golden brown. Stir marshmallows gently over low heat to prevent clumping. Use a fork for the chocolate drizzle to create thin, delicate spiderweb lines. Let treats set fully before cutting to avoid smudging.
