- Black sesame seeds or tiny peppercorns (optional, for eyes)
- Non-stick cooking spray or melted butter (for greasing baking sheet)
- Optional: smoked paprika or garlic powder (for seasoning dough strips)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Unroll crescent roll dough and separate into 8 triangles. Slice each triangle lengthwise into thin strips about 1/4 inch (6 mm) wide.
- If using cheese, sprinkle a little over each hot dog before wrapping.
- Wrap each hot dog with dough strips, leaving small gaps to create the mummy bandage effect. Overlap strips slightly and crisscross for authenticity.
- Place wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until dough is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from oven and, while still warm, use a toothpick or small piping bag to apply two tiny dots of mustard or ketchup for eyes. Alternatively, use black sesame seeds or tiny peppercorns.
- Let the mummy hot dogs cool on a cooling rack for 3-5 minutes to maintain crispness.
