  • 1/2 cup water (120ml)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (whole or 2%, about 30ml)
  • 1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese (about 35g)
  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter (about 5g)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Black pepper to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add dry elbow macaroni to the microwave-safe mug.
  2. Pour in 1/2 cup water, ensuring pasta is fully submerged.
  3. Microwave on high for 2 minutes, then stir to separate pasta.
  4. Continue microwaving in 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until pasta is tender but still chewy (total 3-4 minutes).
  5. Drain excess water if more than 1-2 tablespoons remain, leaving some moisture.
  6. Add butter, milk, and shredded cheddar cheese to the mug and stir.
  7. Microwave for 30-45 seconds until cheese is melted and creamy.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste, stir well, and serve immediately.

Notes

Stir pasta halfway through cooking to prevent clumping and ensure even cooking. Adjust microwave time based on wattage. Use sharp cheddar for best flavor and melt. If mixture looks dry after melting cheese, add a splash more milk and stir. For dairy-free, substitute plant-based milk, vegan cheese, and olive oil or vegan butter.
