These colorful, twisted pizza bites feature a crispy exterior and gooey mozzarella filling, perfect for kids’ parties and quick snacks. The rainbow dough strips create a fun and vibrant twist on classic pizza rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package refrigerated pizza dough (about 13.8 oz / 390 g)
  • Food coloring gels in red, yellow, green, and blue (vegetable-based if possible)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese (about 150 g)
  • 2025 slices mini pepperoni or chopped regular pepperoni
  • ½ cup pizza sauce (about 120 ml)
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (optional)
  • Cooking spray or olive oil (to grease baking sheet)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Divide the pizza dough into four equal portions. Flatten each portion slightly on a clean surface.
  3. Add food coloring. Knead a few drops of each food coloring gel into each dough piece separately (red, yellow, green, blue) until the color is evenly distributed.
  4. Roll each colored dough into a long, thin strip about 10 inches (25 cm) long and ½ inch (1.2 cm) wide.
  5. Line up the colored strips side-by-side and gently press them together lengthwise.
  6. Slice the combined dough strip into 2-inch (5 cm) pieces.
  7. Spread about 1 teaspoon of pizza sauce on each dough piece, then top with a pinch of mozzarella cheese and a slice or two of pepperoni.
  8. Fold each dough piece in half over the filling, pressing the edges gently to seal.
  9. Twist each folded piece carefully to create a rainbow spiral effect without twisting too tight.
  10. Place the twisted bites on the baking sheet about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.
  11. Brush each bite with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with dried Italian herbs if desired.
  12. Bake for 15-18 minutes until the dough is crisp and golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  13. Remove from oven and transfer to a cooling rack for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Wear gloves when kneading colored dough to avoid staining hands. If edges brown too fast, tent with foil halfway through baking. Let bites cool slightly before serving to keep crust crisp. Can be made vegan or gluten-free with substitutions. Air fryer method: 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes.
