Quick and easy heart-shaped donuts made in the air fryer with a crispy exterior and soft interior, topped with a fresh strawberry glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) milk, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons (28 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 cup (150 g) fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar blend for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk 3/4 cup milk, 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 large egg until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently with a spatula just until combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Lightly flour your surface and roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out donuts and transfer to a parchment-lined tray.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Place the donuts in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each. Cook at 350°F for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden and crispy.
  7. While donuts cook, combine 1 cup chopped strawberries, 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Add water if glaze is too thick.
  8. Once donuts are cool enough to handle but still warm, dip the tops into the strawberry glaze or drizzle with a spoon. Let glaze set for 5 minutes.
  9. Optional: Dust with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for extra flair.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to avoid tough donuts. Flip donuts halfway through air frying for even crispiness. Use a cooling rack after air frying to keep donuts crisp. For dairy-free, substitute milk with almond or oat milk and butter with coconut oil. Frozen strawberries can be used for glaze if thawed and drained. Avoid microwaving donuts when reheating; use air fryer or oven instead.
