These crispy air fryer cinnamon sugar donuts are a quick and easy homemade treat with a perfect golden crisp outside and soft inside, coated in a sweet cinnamon sugar glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) milk (whole milk preferred, almond or oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil or melted butter for tossing donuts before coating
  • Cinnamon sugar coating: 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar mixed with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. Combine the wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Make the dough: Pour wet ingredients into dry and fold gently until just combined; dough will be slightly sticky but firm enough to shape.
  4. Shape the donuts: Lightly flour surface and roll dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter (about 3 inches diameter) to cut shapes. Reroll scraps as needed.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Air fry the donuts: Lightly spray or brush air fryer basket with oil. Place donuts in a single layer without overcrowding. Cook for 5-6 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  7. Prepare the cinnamon sugar coating by mixing sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  8. Coat the donuts: Brush warm donuts with melted butter or oil, then toss in cinnamon sugar until evenly coated.
  9. Cool and serve: Let donuts cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes before serving. Best enjoyed warm.

Notes

Do not overmix the dough to keep donuts light and fluffy. Use room temperature ingredients for best texture. Preheat the air fryer for even cooking. Flip donuts halfway through cooking for even browning. Brush with butter or oil before coating to help cinnamon sugar stick. Adjust cooking time or temperature if donuts are not crispy enough. Donuts can be stored at room temperature for 2 days or frozen for longer storage. Reheat in air fryer at 320°F for 3-4 minutes to restore crispness.
